just finished watching “the invention of lying.” was utterly awesome. gervais was always the master of balancing the uncomfortable with humor in “the office,” a feat that has never been remotely matched by the american office or the overrated garbage of “curb your enthusiam.” but this film is much closer to “extras,” in that gervais has managed to more fully develop characters, and to find laughs in ordinary things.
two curious bits though: 1) the credits use the exact same font as woody allen’s films, and 2) my hand to god, everyone ever famous was in this film. tina fey stole every scene she was in, playing far against type, and rather than spoil it, i’ll just say that the police officer from the beginning was fantastic.
oh, and my love for louis c.k. continues to know no bounds.
