finished “the road” this afternoon. i don’t remember the last time a book moved me so much. the last time was probably when i read ‘the sound and the fury’ in college. i mean, just, fucking… i don’t even know. the scene where (and i’m being broad to avoid spoilers) the man gives his son instructions on what to do, after coming out of the house with the people in the basement, if they might be captured just shook me so hard i haven’t let go of it in days. and then there’s the prose itself… the subtle manipulation of the pronouns through the last thirty pages or so that shifts the reader’s perspective is truly remarkable.
best book i’ve read in many, many years.
and then, of course, playing directly into cliche, gave the book to my dad to read.
